Become a Griot (Tour Guide)
Are you a teacher at heart? Do you like to speak to groups of people -- teaching and learning  from them at the same time? If you answered yes, you sound like a true Griot, or ABHM tour guide!

Griot (pronounced grē-ō') is a West African word meaning storyteller or one who perpetuates the oral tradition and history of a village or family by singing histories and tales. At ABHM Griots tell the stories captured in text book pages, giving museum visitors an opportunity to feel, hear, see and experience education – which is truly a central part of our museum’s philosophy.

If you are interested in learning more about becoming a Griot, call the Volunteer Coordinator at 414.264.2500. We can schedule you for the next Griot training session right away!

The Griot Program is made possible by gifts from
the Faye McBeath Foundation and the Harley-Davidson Foundation.
